Perth > The Real Housewives

I like to think my taste in television is broad to reflect the depth of my personality.

Sky News Australia, BBC World News, Bloomberg, CNBC and Sky News Business are constantly on, but I also need some downtime. For example, last night, after watching the brilliant Once Upon A Time in Cabramatta on SBS, I switched to a guilty pleasure of mine, The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills.

So, you can imagine my delight, when I read in the weekend press, that FOXTEL is in the process of commissioning an Australian version of the franchise, to be set in either the Gold Coast or Perth.

This will be in addition to WAG Nation which follows the wives and girlfriends of footballers set in Sydney.

As much as I love the Gold Coast, how great would it be to see a ‘Real Housewives of Perth’ marrying together famous WA faces and business.

The dream team; Australia’s richest person and mining magnate, Gina Rinehart and socialite Rose Porteous. Could television get any better?

Of course, the two have already been in a public battle over the estate of the late Lang Hancock, so the tension is already there.

Imagine the tagline, “Follow some of Perth’s most glamorous business women as they encounter the resourceful fortunes of WA.”

One can only hope and dream.

  1. It’s a fiar idea, but the wrong franchise. The scale of the drama created by the Hancock clan can only be matched by something like Dallas, but Perth doesn’t quite have the same ring…
